We believe, mistakes are always made during flying with patients. It's better to make these mistakes on mannequines than on real patients. All the possible clinical challanges that can arise while in flight, the candidates are exposed to them during their flying session.

04

Apart from the clinical skills, the non-technical skills of teamwork, leadership, communication, situational awareness, coping under pressure, thinking on feet, contingency planning, etc are equally essential when activities are done to save a life at 28000 feet in the confines of an aircraft or a turbulent helicopter. These are transferrable skills and attributes, which are designed to help the doctors to, not only use them in aviation medicine, but will make them fearless of any scenario occurring in their area of work within the hospital. The candidates will be taught to follow, standard operating procedures even before they board their first flight. They will be challenged on all their SOPs while flying with their team.

05

HEMS is the most challenging of pre-hospital Immediate Medical care activities. The clinical skills will have to be acquired and learnt partly on simulation and partly by competency-based training in hospitals. These skills will acquire a totally new dimension when the candidates would be made to perform them at the roadside and in limited access inside a flying helicopter.

06

HEMS in Major Disasters. The HEMS team, maybe the first responders at a remote train disaster. They will be taught, to set up and command make-shift temporary triage and treatment areas. Apart from the clinical skills required to manage the trauma patients, they will be taught to work in cohesion with other emergency services – Fire, Police and Rescue services.
